the full moon in sagittarius & the feral feminine: horoscopes for the 12 signs

Typically we have a New Moon that begins a cycle in a particular sign and six months later, the Full Moon arrives to complete a lesson or bring a climax to the events that were seeded at the New Moon. I don't always trace a Full Moon back to its corresponding New Moon, but this cycle deserves a closer look!

The New Moon in Sagittarius perfected at 28º on December 19th, 2025. The two-week period following saw the last hard aspects made to Saturn and Neptune in Pisces. Although Saturn and Neptune didn’t officially leave Pisces until the new year, this was somewhat of a finale to a struggle we’ve been grappling with since March of 2023, and even longer for Neptune’s transit since 2011.

The Saturn-Neptune squares to the Sagittarius stellium likely put the brakes on one last time at the end of 2025, ultimately driving the lesson home. Saturn-Neptune in Pisces was especially concerned with discernment, surrender, and healing. As a result, the New Moon was an uncomfortable confrontation with all of the ways we were not truly in service to our overall well-being, and it likely required some kind of begrudging sacrifice to preserve the lesson we’ve worked so hard to understand over the last few years.

THE FULL MOON IN SAGITTARIUS

Now, six months later, the Full Moon perfects at 9º Sagittarius on May 31st, 2026. It’s a very different atmosphere now. Saturn is in Aries making a trine to the Moon instead of a square and while Neptune is in Aries and Uranus has recently ingressed Gemini, they’re far enough away that we’re likely to make it through this lunation without too many harsh outer planet revelations.

Additionally, the Moon is still ruled by an exalted Jupiter in Cancer and Venus is headed toward Jupiter to make their annual conjunction. Mercury is also in its domicile ruling the Sun in Gemini. These are very strong, supportive, well-placed transits.

What’s more interesting is that both the New and Full Moon in Sagittarius feature a Venus-Saturn square. At the New Moon, Venus was at 24º Sagittarius, just 1º away from squaring Saturn in Pisces. Now at the Full Moon, Venus in Cancer has just passed its square with Saturn in Aries, which went exact at 11º on May 28th.

The square at the New Moon contributed to the overall disappointment and sacrifice that had to be made at the end of the year. There was a lot of pressure on Venus to consider what its values actually are and whether the Sagittarian chase is really worth it after all these years of Saturnian shaping from the Pisces sector. The current Venus-Saturn square is very different. Saturn in Aries began its transit conjoined to Neptune, requiring a dissolution of old identities and survival tactics. One of the themes already emerging is that fire cannot survive unless it is properly fed and contained. Aries initiation is necessary, but it is not always self-sustaining. While this lesson is true for Saturn in Aries on its own, activation from planets in Cancer accentuate the demand for nourishment.

One of the clearest lessons emerging from this transit is that excitement and nourishment are not always the same thing.

THE ARIES-CANCER SQUARE

Jupiter in Cancer has been helping us explore what nourishment truly looks like since its ingression in June 2025, but conflict from Saturn in Aries has required us to confront the ways we pursue quick satisfaction at the expense of long-term happiness. This is what Venus square Saturn is asking us to examine. It’s likely that we are having to disappoint others and ourselves in order to find what is satisfying long term, even if that means remaining empty for the moment.

Cancer has an irrational, wild nature. It’s a feminine sign ruled by the Moon. I’ve always thought this concept was articulated best by Capricorn risings and their natural relationship with Cancer, as this is the sign on their whole sign 7th house. No one is more drawn to the dark, feral feminine than the buttoned-up Saturnian.

I recently watched Pretty Woman (1990) starring Richard Gere, a Capricorn rising, and Julia Roberts, a Cancer rising with natal Saturn in Aries. This film perfectly captures the dichotomy between these two archetypes and their ruling planets: Saturn and the Moon. Julia Roberts plays a loon, a sex worker, completely untethered and ill-mannered. While some of that archetype is expressed through her Virgo stellium (the virgin-prostitute), this Cancerian quality of the unknown, unpredictable intimate encounter is what ultimately shakes Gere’s character out of his own limitations and cynicism.

He teaches her about refinement and self-respect, but she ultimately unlocks his true desire: to build something lasting. They end the film both rewilded and domesticated at the same time.

Pop astrology often reduces Cancer and the Moon to "home," but Cancer is just as concerned with the process of domestication itself. It explores what happens when we cultivate our nature, reject it, or unravel it entirely. It’s not sustainable to remain in the wild lunar realm forever, but it can be equally dangerous to ignore it. The Moon remains in contact with the untamed source of life itself while Saturn provides the structure that allows that life force to endure.

The river needs its banks.

The reason the Pretty Woman example works is not because Julia Roberts represents "home." She represents the part of life that hasn't been fully civilized yet: instinct, appetite, irrationality. This is what Saturn tries to control but secretly needs. Richard Gere's character isn't merely structure. He's structure that has become disconnected from life. Saturn in Aries may represent a time where we are having to build an entirely new structure, but a great deal must change first. It is through confrontation with something that doesn’t make logical sense that we discover what needs to change. Usually it’s something our bodies, discomfort, and unhappiness have been telling us all along.

When we have major transits through Cancer, we go through a process of becoming rewilded so we can understand our true nature and change (or even regress) in order to become more ourselves. The Moon and Cancer are deeply concerned with what is innate and natural. They do not do well when their needs are suppressed or denied. The body rebels, and we find ourselves in a state of lunacy. The healthy, nourished Cancerian knows what it needs and makes changes to accommodate the phase of life it’s currently in, using its internal wisdom to navigate what others cannot yet see.

So the planets in Aries and Cancer have been challenging each other, now through Venus-Saturn, but the Jupiter in Cancer transit began with a square to Saturn and Neptune in Aries as well.

The last year has revolved around nourishment and rewilding, often at the expense of short-term desires, logical but harmful methods of survival, and performative displays of strength. The pursuit of nourishment requires the ability to say no to what doesn’t sate and the bravery to seek what your soul needs regardless of how it appears to others.

Jupiter in Cancer has been a crucial chapter in the Saturn in Aries story. Before we can commit to the future, we have to understand what actually feeds us long term. Not everything worth building is exciting, and not everything exciting is worth building.

The day after the Full Moon, Mercury ingresses Cancer and will square Saturn in Aries on June 9th, the same day as the Venus-Jupiter conjunction in Cancer. Instead of Venusian desire and value being confronted, it’s Mercurial communication and exchange. While these Saturn squares can predict disappointments and delays, they are also powerful moments of maturation. Hard aspects from Saturn are ultimately what push us to master difficult things and reject what isn’t aligned.

Meanwhile, the Venus-Jupiter conjunction is always highly anticipated and sensationalized, and while I don’t think it can ever live up to that kind of hype, it is still a really nice aspect. We had the Venus-Jupiter conjunction in Cancer last year at 14º on August 11th. This year it will perfect at 25º Cancer, and the late-degree Cardinal signs (Aries, Libra, Cancer, Capricorn) can expect to feel this the most. This aspect often presents moments that provoke us into exploring what we want and what we love. They seem aimed at teaching an influential lesson through an encounter with what makes life beautiful, ultimately expanding what feels possible. Of course, it must fit into the context of the personal chart, but this can be one of the most nourishing transits of the year even with Saturn's serious considerations.

LOOPING SAG BACK IN

Gemini-Sagittarius is the axis of language and mobility. In the story of Gemini, we go back to the basics to become fluent in the art of communication, skill, and exchange. This sign is deeply concerned with how things work, function, and move. Why do they do that? How do they do that? In Sagittarius, we use everything we’ve learned from those building blocks to expand beyond them. Learning and discovery become the focal point of these signs and Sagittarius, in particular, becomes fascinated by what is foreign.

For that reason, I think it makes sense that Jupiter, the planet that rules Sagittarius, would exalt in the feral, wild, unknown sign of Cancer. There is nothing more foreign or worth exploring than the dark realm of the feminine.

At first glance, these signs seem to have very little in common. Sagittarius is often associated with movement while Cancer is associated with home. Sagittarius seeks what lies beyond the horizon while Cancer concerns itself with what is intimate, personal, and familiar. Yet both signs are fundamentally concerned with discovery. Sagittarius searches for truth by venturing outward while Cancer searches for truth by venturing inward.

Perhaps this is why Jupiter is so powerful in Cancer. Over the last year, Jupiter in Cancer has been guiding us into territory that many of us would rather avoid. Not because it is dangerous, but because it is irrational. The body rarely explains itself. Instinct does not provide evidence. Yet these lunar experiences often contain information that our carefully constructed philosophies cannot access.

The irony of this Sagittarius Full Moon is that it may reveal the foreign territory we’ve been searching for was never somewhere "out there." The great adventure may have been reconnecting with something ancient and honest within ourselves.

If Sagittarius teaches us to seek truth wherever it may lead, Jupiter in Cancer reminds us that some truths can only be found by returning to what is natural. That may be the lesson culminating under this Full Moon: not that we need to become someone new, but that we need to trust what we’ve discovered about ourselves and have the courage to build a life around it.

The journey forward may ultimately require a return.
