the shape of mars & the full moon in aries (horoscopes for all 12 signs)

10 min read

I’ve focused quite a bit on the Saturn-Neptune conjunction this year, not to annoy readers, but because I fear it’s not getting nearly enough credit as the defining archetype of the last two years.

This transit centers on dissolving structures that have reached the end of their life cycle alongside the difficult creative work of imagining and constructing something more viable. It requires us to become pliable, compassionate, and innovative enough to dream and also, slow and intentional enough to make the dream last.

We’ll be continuing to explore this idea throughout the remainder of the Saturn in Aries transit through 2028, and throughout Neptune’s transit through Aries until 2039, though it will morph into different shapes over time (because how is 2039 even a real year?)

Now we’ve arrived at the Full Moon in Aries conjoined to Neptune with Saturn not so far away. There’s a lot that could be said about such a versatile Moon, Neptune creates a gray area for anything to happen. Here are a few themes that I’m mulling over:

Firstly, a Full Moon conjoined to Neptune likely means that we do not have a clear picture at this time. Full Moons tend to act as catalysts or culmination points which can be remarkably clear and obvious because of their intense nature… but this is not one of those Moons. Nothing is very clear or obvious, everything is foggy but we have no choice but to carry on and allow reality to reveal itself on its own timeline.

I think this makes sense in the greater context of the sky weather, with Venus about to station retrograde as well as Mercury and Mars on the verge of slowing down too, there’s a lot that we have to go back to reassess before clarity strikes.

It could be a time when you know that you want or need something– and I’m emphasizing need as a keyword for anaretic Mars in Cancer ruling this lunation– but you don’t know how to get there. It’s okay if you don’t have the answers or the next steps just yet, that’s not the point of this time.

Aries and Mars are about action, but Neptune requires surrender and very often, a sacrifice. It could be that space needs to be made for whatever the desire or need is and that only comes through letting go of something first (probably control… speed… approach… maybe even specificity).

In my years of researching Neptune, I stand by the word “reenactment” as a descriptor of these transits. Neptune likes to create similar looking circumstances over and over again until we have examined them from every angle and have confronted every nuance. Each time, if we take our cough syrup, the pattern gets smaller and potentially less harmful. This allows for the “ideal” or the “dream” to establish itself, but only after necessary catharsis.

This could be a time where we’re reviewing a pattern in an entirely new way, noticing its connection to the past, but deeply desiring to do something new with it. Newness is possible but only if we are able to get rid of everything that created the older pattern. It’s a tricky business that requires a unique kind of self awareness.

We should all pay attention to Mars right now, at the time of the Full Moon it’s at 29º Cancer but a New or Full Moon tends to unfold over a two week period in the immediate and in their entirety, over the course of six months. In the next two weeks, Mars will move into Leo (September 27) and oppose Pluto in Aquarius (October 3). Mars is also one of the ruling planets of the upcoming Venus retrograde (also stationing on October 3). These transits are a functioning part of what the Full Moon story is setting off.

Mars-Pluto aspects were a staple during the last Mars retrograde in Cancer-Leo (Dec 2024-Feb 2025) and not only are we seeing that aspect again, but it’s colliding with Venus retrograde too. Venus square Pluto is the only repeated aspect we see before, during, and after the retrograde. There’s been a slow, churning process of transformation that continues now, there’s a lot ready to be exposed in the queue.

Aspects to Pluto are routine but a retrograde’s emphasis suddenly makes Pluto very important. Obsession, control, paranoia, power struggles, and other similar delights make their way to the forefront and it’s adding to the current Neptunian confusion of this Full Moon. We may be so unsure of what steps to take next simply because it feels so consequential, that’s a mix of Saturn in Aries (actions have consequences) and Mars opposite Pluto (actions that come from fear or some level of perversion).

This is why we should all be very careful in understanding our motivations right now. As Mars moves into an opposition with Pluto, they bring questions of autonomy, control, and dependence to the surface. Pluto in Aquarius wants greater autonomy, individuality, and differentiation within a harmonious, functioning community– but to establish that, it also exposes the uncomfortable underbelly of dependence, “support,” and what we give up in order to belong.

With Venus stationing retrograde soon, we’re being asked to consider what our true values really are and how we’d like to represent them. What are we actually willing to sacrifice for belonging, and what are we no longer willing to sacrifice for it? Authenticity may cost something, but inauthenticity will cost something greater.

And this brings us back to Mars, because Mars is the ruler of this Full Moon and half of the Venus retrograde. If Neptune is making it difficult to see exactly what we’re supposed to do, Mars asks us to look more closely at what is actually motivating us to act in the first place. As Mars moves into Leo and toward its opposition with Pluto in Aquarius, that question becomes increasingly personal: What are we acting for? What are we trying to preserve, prove, protect, or become? And perhaps most importantly, what are we willing to give up in order to belong?

The answers to those questions may be fuzzy, but overall, this Full Moon may not tell us what to do, but it may show us more clearly what we can no longer keep doing the same way.

Hopefully this is all making sense! I know this article might be very vague-posty, but everyone’s situation is unique and will require the various retrogrades to truly unearth the meaning behind all of this sky. The best advice I have is to buckle up for the ride and get clear on what you’d like your ideal world to look like when all of this is done.

Happy Full Moon.

HOROSCOPES FOR THE 12 RISING SIGNS

Aries rising:

This Full Moon lands in your 1H, bringing something about you to a strange but undeniable culmination. You may know that something about the way you’ve been moving through the world needs to change without knowing exactly what the new version looks like yet. With Mars at 29º Cancer ruling the lunation from your 4H, the motivation may be deeply tied to home, family, emotional security, or an old survival pattern. As Mars enters Leo and opposes Pluto in your 11H, the question becomes less about who you are alone and more about who you’re becoming in relation to everyone else. You may be discovering that belonging requires a different version of you than it used to.

Taurus rising:

The Full Moon is illuminating your 12H, where things are often felt long before they can be clearly articulated. Something may be completing behind the scenes, but you may not yet have language for what it is. Mars at 29º Cancer rules this lunation from your 3H, making your thoughts, conversations, information, and familiar mental patterns especially important. And then Mars moves into your 4H to oppose Pluto in your 10H, potentially exposing an old tension between private security and public identity. You may recognize this terrain from the last Mars retrograde, but the structures underneath it have changed. Don’t rush to name the answer before you understand what’s actually ending.

Gemini rising:

The Aries Full Moon lands in your 11H, bringing a culmination around community, friendship, networks, and the future you’re trying to build. It may be surprisingly unclear which people or possibilities actually belong in that future. Mars at 29º Cancer rules the lunation from your 2H, pointing directly toward needs around money, resources, self-worth, and what makes you feel secure. When Mars enters your 3H and opposes Pluto in your 9H, conversations and information may force you to reconsider a belief, direction, or larger vision. You’re not necessarily being asked to decide yet, but you are being asked to notice what you can no longer pretend you believe.

Cancer rising:

This Full Moon lands in your 10H, making career, visibility, reputation, and your larger direction impossible to ignore, even if you still have no idea what the final picture looks like. Mars at 29º Cancer rules the lunation from your 1H, which makes this deeply personal: your needs, your body, your instincts, your sense of self. You may be realizing that the professional or public life you’re building cannot be separated from who you actually are anymore. Mars entering your 2H to oppose Pluto in your 8H brings the question of resources and exchange into sharper focus. What are you willing to give, and what are you no longer willing to give away?

Leo rising:

The Full Moon falls in your 9H, illuminating beliefs, meaning, education, travel, publishing, spirituality, and the larger story you tell yourself about where your life is going. Something is culminating here, but Neptune makes it difficult to distinguish revelation from projection just yet. Mars at 29º Cancer rules the lunation from your 12H, suggesting that some of the motivation behind your next move is still operating below the surface. Then Mars enters your 1H and opposes Pluto in your 7H, making this considerably more personal. The version of you that emerges from this process may not be compatible with every relationship or agreement you’ve been maintaining.

Virgo rising:

This Full Moon activates your 8H, bringing shared resources, debts, intimacy, trust, entanglements, and energetic exchanges into a foggy but significant moment of culmination. You may sense that a way of relating or an arrangement has reached the end of its useful life without knowing what replaces it yet. Mars at 29º Cancer rules the lunation from your 11H, tying the issue to community, friendship, networks, and the future you’ve been imagining. When Mars enters your 12H and opposes Pluto in your 6H, the tension may become less visible but more psychologically insistent. Something about the way you’ve been participating, contributing, or carrying responsibility may need to be examined before you can move forward.

Libra rising:

The Full Moon in your 7H puts relationships, agreements, and one-to-one dynamics under a strange kind of illumination: you can see that something has reached a turning point, but you may not yet know what the new arrangement is. Mars at 29º Cancer rules the lunation from your 10H, connecting your personal relationships to career, visibility, and the direction your life is taking publicly. As Mars enters your 11H and opposes Pluto in your 5H, the tension shifts toward friendship versus individuality, community versus creative self-expression. You may be asking whether the people around you actually support the person you’re becoming, and whether you’re willing to disappoint anyone to find out.

Scorpio rising:

The Aries Full Moon lands in your 6H, bringing work, health, routines, obligations, systems, and the everyday mechanics of your life to a culmination point. Something about the way you’ve been operating may no longer be sustainable, even if you can’t yet articulate the replacement. Mars at 29º Cancer rules the lunation from your 9H, so the motivation may come from a changing worldview, belief system, or desire for a larger life. Then Mars enters your 10H and opposes Pluto in your 4H. The old question of what do I believe? becomes what am I actually building my life around? And that may require dismantling something much closer to home.

Sagittarius rising:

The Full Moon in your 5H brings creativity, pleasure, self-expression, romance, and the desire to make something uniquely yours into focus. There may be a strong feeling that you need to create or express something differently, even if the finished form isn't clear yet. Mars at 29º Cancer rules the lunation from your 8H, suggesting that the motivation is tangled up with trust, shared resources, vulnerability, or something you’ve inherited emotionally from the past. When Mars enters your 9H and opposes Pluto in your 3H, old beliefs and old ways of thinking may collide with a much larger vision for your life. You may be discovering that creating something new requires thinking from somewhere you’ve never thought from before.

Capricorn rising:

The Aries Full Moon lands in your 4H, putting home, family, belonging, emotional foundations, and your private life at the center of this strange culmination. Something is shifting underneath you, but Neptune makes it difficult to tell whether you’re witnessing an ending, a beginning, or simply the dissolution of an old structure. Mars at 29º Cancer rules the lunation from your 7H, making relationships and other people’s needs part of the equation. As Mars enters your 8H and opposes Pluto in your 2H, questions of shared versus personal resources, dependence, and self-sufficiency become much harder to avoid. You may be figuring out what security actually means when the old definition no longer works.

Aquarius rising:

The Full Moon lands in your 3H, bringing conversations, information, ideas, siblings, local environments, and familiar thought patterns to a culmination. Something you’ve been circling mentally may finally become impossible to ignore, although Neptune means the conclusion may remain frustratingly fuzzy. Mars at 29º Cancer rules the lunation from your 6H, tying your motivation to work, routine, responsibility, and the practical demands of daily life. Then Mars enters your 7H and opposes Pluto in your 1H. This is where the personal becomes unavoidable: other people may mirror back a version of yourself that you’re in the process of outgrowing. The question may not be whether you can maintain the old dynamic, but whether you still want to.

Pisces rising:

The Aries Full Moon falls in your 2H, bringing money, resources, self-worth, priorities, and your relationship with security into a culmination point. You may know that something about what you value has changed before you know what you’re going to do about it. Mars at 29º Cancer rules the lunation from your 5H, making creativity, pleasure, self-expression, and the desire to create something meaningful central to the story. As Mars enters your 6H and opposes Pluto in your 12H, the practical realities of your daily life may collide with deeper patterns you’ve been unconsciously repeating. You may discover that the life you want requires not just different priorities, but a different relationship with the patterns that have been quietly running the show.
