THE FULL MOON IN CAPRICORN

I want you to think all the way back to January, that was the last time we had lunations on the Cancer-Capricorn axis. This was also the month of the Venus-Mars cazimi and the Mercury-Mars conjunction all in Capricorn.

Since conjunctions are representative of seeds, there were likely a few rocky beginnings that came out of that time, and of course, some beginnings start as endings. Capricorn is primarily about what matures or accumulates over time. So, whatever you’ve been building or learning about in this sector of the chart since the New Moon six months ago, the planets may be checking in now for a performance review. Additionally, Mercury will station retrograde just before the Full Moon, another transit that is taking us back to the past for greater clarity.

One big difference between the transits and lunations in January and the ones this month is that Saturn, Capricorn’s ruler, has changed signs. The Capricorn and Aquarius transits from that time served as the transition between the end of Saturn in Pisces and the beginning of Saturn in Aries. The function of January seemed to be about finishing up the previous Saturn story so that we could start over with a blank slate, awake and fully sober.

The Saturn-Neptune conjunction in Aries, one of the most defining transits of 2025 and 2026, perfected just weeks after the New Moon in Capricorn. Six months later, this Full Moon is closely square Neptune (4º orb) and Saturn (6º orb). This reactivates this overarching theme for the year, which I have already written about ad nauseum.

Saturn and Neptune only meet up every 36 years and when they do, they soften and dissolve the reality of a sign’s archetype, ultimately reimagining it. We saw that in 1989 with the conjunction in Capricorn and the birth of the Millennial generation, one that contributed to our changing cultural ideas about success and authority. This was also the softening of the role of the father as a new kind of role was invented in place of the 1950’s nuclear model.

In Aries, ruled by the planet Mars, we are going through a change primarily regarding identity and movement. The Full Moon directs us, once again, back to this lesson.

A SATURN-NEPTUNE CHECKPOINT

I was actually so gagged at the last season of The Bear that came out this week of the Full Moon. For those who haven't watched, the show follows a talented but volatile chef, Carmy, whose perfectionism slowly becomes unrealistic and unsustainable. Without spoiling anything major, the newest season explores what happens when someone built on intensity has to make room for a different way of leading.

Aries and Mars rule over kitchens. You’ll find that many people who cook professionally have strong Mars influence in their charts. Mars rules heat, alchemy, the act of creating or transforming something. Kitchens are hot, stressful, and loud. Movement is integral to the process, and it requires a kind of militancy that you’d find in an army, or else it’s chaos.

Not to mention the literal knives and fire and potential for argument or injury at every turn– this all fits into the archetype of Mars.

Ultimately, Carmy is leaving the restaurant and his partner, Sydney is set to take over. It's so perfectly Saturn-Neptune in Aries, Sydney taking over represents this Aries archetype being softened. There’s this pliability that is introduced to the kitchen that contrasts the previously harsh approach of her partner. Carmy embodies Mars at full volume: driven, relentless, brilliant, but increasingly untenable. Sydney doesn't remove Mars from the kitchen, but she refines it. The urgency remains, but it's paired with flexibility, collaboration, and respect. The work still gets done, only now it's built to last.

These are ultimately Saturn-Neptune’s conditions for longevity. We are being asked as a collective to soften and refine at the same time.

There are consequences for our actions. Saturn in Aries brings quite a bit of reflection on anger, its function, and how it might be appropriately or inappropriately expressed. This can damage our relationships, both Mars ruled signs (Aries and Scorpio) are opposite the Venusian signs (Taurus and Libra) for that reason. This theme is a major arc in Carmy's character development.

Additionally, at the end of season 4 and beginning of season 5, Carmy is starting a new venture from scratch. Aries of course, is about birth and particularly about the struggle that we encounter at the beginning of a new venture. Forging new identities and behaviors that align with the ‘changed self’ that came out of the Piscean abyss is a major piece of this transit. It's nearly impossible to imagine a new identity after building your life around something so specific, this is one of the common issues with this Saturn-Neptune transit.

Besides the recognition of misplaced anger and toxicity, this decision for him to leave was largely passion driven. We tend to become angry and restless when we are doing things that we don’t want to be doing.

While we’re already doing some impromptu film analysis here, Pixar’s Elemental, which came out during the Aries nodal cycle and eclipses, does a great job of articulating the Saturn in Aries conundrum too: Anger is telling you something important, usually that you’re betraying your true feelings and passions due to your own or other’s expectations.

Saturn-Neptune is ruling and squaring the Full Moon and as such, it may bring all of these themes mentioned to a head, requiring a reassessment of where we’re at within this lesson. This engages Capricorn's desire for legacy as motivation to refine the ventures we start.

With 3 of the 4 cardinal signs activated here, it’s a reminder that the modalities are the biggest growth edge for any transit, i.e. Saturn in Aries will be most potent during transits to Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn. These squares and oppositions create friction, invoking the most impactful change of all. This Full Moon is a cosmic checkpoint.

CANCER-CAPRICORN SQUARE ARIES
